Mechanics of a continuous medium

The Continuum Mechanics is a theory which establishes the field equations governing the physichal processes of a continuous medium or continuum. A continuum is any portion of matter (solid, liquid or gas) which can be considered without gaps or empty spaces. Thus, Continuum Mechanics plays a fundamental role in all fields of engineering. This book presents the main assumptions and the successive mathematical developments which allow to establish the complete field equations of a continuum.
