The journal is the official organ of the National Institute of Archaeology and Art History, founded in 1918 by Benedetto Croce (then the Minister of Education) and Corrado Ricci. The institute, founded to provide scholars with tools and resources for study, still works to promote studies in the field of archaeology and art history and to protect our historical and artistic heritage. In 1929 the "Rivista del Reale Istituto d'Archeologia e Storia dell'Arte" was established to disseminate studies and research related to the Institute's disciplines. Although interrupted in 1942, publication resumed in 1952 and continues today: after 90 years, "RIASA" remains one of the most scrupulous and authoritative journals in the field of archaeology and art history. It serves as a nucleus for producing and evaluating science, a stimulus for discussing new theories and research practices, and an international vehicle for the knowledge and analysis of new events in the field of ancient studies.
