The checkered history of biblical exegesis, in which the Biblical Institute takes part in a special way, does not in fact hide the work and indispensable suffering to keep reviving the letter, while bringing the Spirit of the Lord into it.
Maurice GILBERT, a Belgian Jesuit, has been associated with the Pontifical Biblical Institute since 1967. First as a student, then professor of exegesis of the sapiential books of the Old Testament, he was later in charge of both the Institute's Roman centre as well as the one in Jerusalem. He is now emeritus. |
